Insulation removal and replacement in San Angelo
Attic insulation spoiled by rodents, roof leaks or years of blown dust vacuumed out, the attic sealed, and clean insulation put back.

When old insulation needs to come out
Clean, dry insulation can usually stay and be topped up. Damaged insulation is a different story. Around San Angelo the most common cause is animals. Rats, mice and squirrels move into attics when the nights turn cold, then nest in the insulation, tunnel through it and leave droppings and urine across the attic floor.
Roof leaks are the other big one. A dry climate does not mean a dry attic. One heavy thunderstorm or a hailstorm that cracks shingles can soak a section of insulation, leaving it matted, stained and smelly well after the roof is repaired. Older attics can also be loaded with years of blown in dust, or carry the odor of smoke after a fire.
We pull the old material out with a high power vacuum that runs from the attic straight to a truck or sealed bags outside, so none of it passes through your rooms. With the attic floor bare, it is the perfect time to seal the gaps where dust and air get in. Then clean insulation goes back in to the right depth.

- Cause check for leaks and animal entry points
- Droppings and nests cleared out with the old material

Signs it is time to clear it out
Droppings and nests
Evidence of rodents or squirrels means the insulation should be replaced, not buried under new material.
Scratching overhead
Sounds in the ceiling on a cold night usually mean something has moved in.
Stains on the ceiling
A brown ring below the attic usually means wet insulation above it.
Matted or crusted patches
Insulation that got soaked loses most of its value and can hold odor.
An odor at the hatch
A sour or stale smell when you open the attic points to contamination or old moisture.
Smoke damage
Insulation holds the smell of smoke long after a fire is out.
If your insulation is simply thin but clean and dry, it probably does not need to come out. A blown in top up costs less.
Clear it, seal it, refill it

Gaps and air leaks get sealed while the floor is open.
Reinsulate
Fresh insulation goes in to the depth on your estimate.
What removal costs
Removal pricing depends on the size of the attic, how much material is up there, how easy it is to reach and how much cleanup is needed. A tall, walkable attic goes faster than a low, tight one. We price removal and the new insulation together so the whole job shows up as one number.

Removal questions
Will the old insulation come through my house?
- No. The vacuum hose runs from the attic directly outside.
What about the animals?
- Have pest or wildlife control remove them and close the entry points first.
- If not, they will move right into the new insulation.
Should the roof be fixed first?
- Yes. Repair leaks or hail damage before new insulation goes in.
- If you are filing a claim, ask your adjuster about the insulation too.
How long does it take?
- Most attics take a day. Heavy contamination or tight access can take longer.
Could the old insulation be hazardous?
- Usually not. Some older homes have vermiculite, which can contain asbestos.
- If we see it, we stop and recommend testing before anything is disturbed.
