Insulation and air seal in the same pass

Batts and loose fill slow heat, but air slips right through them. Spray foam goes on as a liquid, swells into cracks and joints, and cures into a solid layer. That one layer slows heat and blocks air together, and it stays put instead of settling.

In San Angelo the sun does most of the damage. A shingle roof under a clear West Texas sky gets very hot by mid afternoon, and an ordinary vented attic gets hot right along with it. Air leaks add to the problem by pulling hot attic air and fine dust into the house through gaps at light fixtures, plumbing vents and wall tops. Foam shuts those paths while it insulates.

Our most common job is open cell foam on the underside of the roof deck. That pulls the attic, the air handler and the ducts inside the sealed part of the house, so cooled air is not crossing a scorching attic to reach the vents. For pole barns, shops and other metal buildings, closed cell foam is the right tool.

  • Open cell foam for roof decks, walls and sound control
  • Closed cell foam for metal buildings, barndominiums and rim joists
  • Air sealing at top plates, pipe and wire holes and attic hatches
  • Protective coatings like ignition barriers where code calls for them
  • Free inspection and a written price before any work

Open cell or closed cell?

Both are spray foam, but they suit different places. We choose based on where the foam is going and what that surface has to deal with.

Where it pays off

When spray foam earns its price

Ducts in a hot attic

With foam on the roof deck, ducts sit in a space close to room temperature instead of a blazing attic, so more of your cooling reaches the rooms.

Older, leaky homes

Many older San Angelo houses leak at every joint. You notice it in the dust on the window sills. Foam closes those gaps.

Homes on open land

Houses out on acreage near Wall, Christoval or Mertzon catch the full wind and dust. A sealed shell keeps more of it outdoors.

Metal buildings

Closed cell foam cuts heat off a steel roof and keeps it from sweating when the night turns cool.

When to pass on it: if your ducts are tight, the attic is in decent shape and it just needs more depth, blown in insulation stretches your budget further. We will tell you if that fits your house.

How it works

What a spray foam job looks like

We check the roof deck or building, wiring, ducts, vents and any old leak marks.

02

Written estimate

Foam type, thickness and every area covered, listed out.

03

Protect

Floors, walls and belongings get covered. Vents are handled per the plan.

04

Spray and clean

Foam goes on to the listed depth, gets trimmed where needed, and we clean up.

What spray foam costs

Foam is sold by the board foot, one square foot at one inch thick. Surface area, thickness, open or closed cell, and how easy the space is to work in decide the total. Low pitch attics and tall barn eaves both add time.

Spray foam questions

Does spray foam help on cold nights too?
  • Yes. It slows heat loss and blocks cold air from slipping in through gaps.
  • Ducts inside a foamed attic lose less heat during a freeze.
Will my attic vents be sealed off?
  • With an unvented roof deck design, yes. The attic becomes part of the conditioned space.
  • We go over the plan with you before work starts.
Do I still need a radiant barrier with foam?
  • Usually not. Foam on the roof deck already keeps that heat out of the attic.
What if my roof gets replaced later?
  • Foam under the deck usually stays when shingles are replaced.
  • If decking boards are swapped, the foam on them has to be redone. Talk to your roofer first.
Will the house smell afterward?
  • There is an odor while it is sprayed and cures.
  • Stay out for the time the manufacturer lists, usually about a day.
How long does it take?
  • Most attics take a day. Big homes and large metal buildings can take two.
