What affects the cost of insulation in San Angelo?
How the insulation types compare, what pushes a price up or down, and how to get a written price for your home, barn or shop.

How the options compare
No two houses or barns are alike, so we only price work in writing after a free inspection. The table shows how the main choices compare with each other over the same area, from lowest cost to highest.
| Insulation type | Relative cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Radiant barrier | Lower | Sun baked roofs over attics that already have decent depth |
| Blown in fiberglass or cellulose | Lower | Adding depth to an existing attic |
| Batts | Lower to moderate | Open walls, new homes, barndominium living areas, pier and beam floors |
| Open cell spray foam | Moderate to higher | Attic roof decks, interior walls |
| Closed cell spray foam | Highest | Pole barns, ranch shops and metal buildings, rim joists |
| Removal | Depends on the attic | Insulation ruined by rodents, roof leaks or smoke |
Spray foam is measured in board feet. A board foot is one square foot of foam one inch thick, so two inches of foam over 300 square feet comes to 600 board feet.
Six things behind every quote
Area
The square footage of attic floor, roof deck, walls or steel panels is the starting point.
Material
Blown in fiberglass sits at the low end. Closed cell foam sits at the high end.
Depth or thickness
More inches take more material. We size it to the R-value the space calls for.
Old insulation
Material fouled by rodents or soaked by a leak must come out before new goes in.
Access and distance
Low attics, tall barn eaves that need a lift, and long ranch roads all add time.
Sealing and prep
Air sealing, eave baffles and covering belongings are part of doing it right.
How much insulation do you need?
Tom Green, Runnels and Irion counties are all in climate zone 3. For this zone, ENERGY STAR recommends:
- Attic with no insulation: R-49
- Attic with 3 to 4 inches already: add R-38
- Floors over unconditioned space: R-19
Most attics we see around San Angelo land somewhere in the middle, so measuring yours tells you more than any rule of thumb. Read how much attic insulation a San Angelo home needs.
Will it pay off?
That depends on where you are starting, where the ducts run and how you use the space. An attic with a few inches of old, flattened insulation has much more to gain than one already close to the recommended depth. Because roof heat drives so much of the cooling load here, a radiant barrier or roof deck foam can matter as much as extra inches on the floor. We will tell you plainly which upgrades make sense for your place and which do not.
Getting your price
After a free inspection, you get a written estimate listing the material, depth and each area covered, so you can compare it line by line with any other quote. Use the form below, or send a photo of your attic, barn or shop through the contact page and we can often give you a rough idea before we come out.
Cost questions
Is spray foam worth the higher price?
- Often yes for attics with ductwork, leaky older homes and metal buildings.
- For a simple top up in a sound attic, blown in is usually the better value.
Does a pole barn cost more to insulate than a house?
- It depends on the size and the foam thickness.
- Metal buildings usually need closed cell foam, which costs more per board foot, but an open barn may only need the roof done.
Is a radiant barrier a good value here?
- In a sunny climate like ours, often yes, especially with ducts in the attic.
- Adding it during a blown in job keeps the cost down.
Is the estimate free?
- Yes. The inspection and written estimate cost nothing and carry no obligation.
Are there rebates or tax credits?
- Programs change often.
- Check with your electric provider and current federal tax guidance before you buy.
Why do quotes vary so much?
- Usually the depth, material or prep work is different.
- Compare what each quote includes, not just the bottom line.
